Natasha, Pierre, and the Guerilla Reading of War and Peace

A musical based on “War and Peace”? I’m sure you think I’m crazy, but “Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812″ has been doing very well for what seemed like a short, off beat run.

The musical, itself, is a rock? opera set in a dinner club. I’m sure that sounds horrible, but it mixes really well, and the cast pulls it off. So, what does this have to do with my sleep deprivation? How did that even come up, I bet you’re wondering.

Well, if you happen to be in New York, there is a reading of “War and Peace” going on in Times Square. It started yesterday, Feb 24th and runs through sometime tomorrow, Feb 26th. Readers volunteered for their slots, and are spending half hour chunks reading aloud to all the confused and delighted European tourists. This morning, I had a shift from 5-5:30, and thankfully, got one without too many French passages. Plus, it was 5 am. Everyone involved (those that were awake) were really pleasant, and I’d love to see more people swinging by.

“Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812″ runs through this weekend, so you still have a little bit of time to see it before it closes, but don’t wait. I promise you, it’s one of the best things running this year and you won’t be disappointed. There is also a kickstarter going to get a movie produced, so check that out as well. Lastly, the cheese plate had a lot more food then I expected, and is highly recommended.
